Bob Triggs

Bob Triggs, born in the southernmost capital of the world on a spring afternoon in early October, was the sixth Kelper born that year. Before the 1982 war put the Falkland Islands into world focus, the only way on and off the windswept archipelago was a four to five day sea journey on a 46-passenger supply ship that plowed the South Atlantic between Port Stanley and Montevideo, Uruguay ten times a year. It was one of the most isolated countries in the world at the time with a total population of less than 1,900 inhabitants.

Bob wrote his first "book" at the age of ten; more than 320 pages handwritten with a cartridge pen. "It was a school assignment for the summer holiday," Bob says. "It was a particularly bad summer and it rained almost everyday. I began writing the story out of boredom, but Boy, did I get hooked. It was like an obsession. I remember how my hand used to ache from so much writing, but I didn't want to rest in case I forgot what I was going to write next."

He left the the Falkland Islands in 1976 and settled in London for 18 years. Bob is married and has been living near Los Angeles, California, since 1994. He has never returned to the islands since he left forty-four years ago.
